THE LATEST IN ROOFING

Why your stone coated Roof faded, NOT what you think!

April 09, 2021

1. Stone Chips.

There are two kinds of stone chips on the market.

One is pre-painted stone chips; this is the use of paints to coat natural stone. These chips are very bright mostly when new! But the lifespan is limited to about 2-3 years. Fading is visible after the first few weeks post-installation. Other manufacturers use painted stone which quickly changes color due to UV and comes off easily due to low-quality basecoats.

The other chip is sintered stone chips; it is the most advanced technology for the chips for stone coated roofing sheets. The best roofs in the world use this technology, i.e Carlacl®, Decra®, Fortiza®, etc. Sintering is the process of compacting and forming a solid mass of material by heat or pressure without melting it to the point of liquefaction. Sintered stone gives a guarantee of beyond 20 years on color retention. Sangobuild® uses Exclusive stone chips from France. We offer a guarantee of at least 20 years no fading, no color change.

2. Acrylic Glue.

You may use the best stone chips in the world but if your adhesive is weak, you stand no chance, your stone chips will definitely flake off. If the acrylic coat is too thin, it won’t adhere as well, When it’s too thick or too thin the result is a substandard stone coated tile.

3. The Metal Sheet

Two steel materials are popular in the roofing industry:

1: Galvanized Steel Sheet = PPGI.

Galvanized steel is regular steel sheets that have been coated in zinc to make them corrosion resistant. Regular steel is made of iron which will rust when exposed to moisture, either in the form of rain or ambient humidity. Over time rust will corrode a steel part to the point of failure. To prevent steel parts from rusting there are two options:

• Switch to a metal that will not corrode when exposed to water

• Coat the steel with a physical barrier to prevent water from reacting with the iron

2: Galvalume Steel Sheet = Aluminum Zinc Steel Sheet = PPGL

Galvalume has barrier corrosion resistance and heat resistance similar to aluminized material and good bare edge galvanic protection and forming qualities like galvanized material. Consequently, Galvalume and Galvalume Plus will resist rust, the elements, and fire while providing a sturdy and protective covering.Galvalume® is more corrosion-resistant than galvanized steel

And That is how our roofs are guaranteed to last over 50years!

Beware of Fakes and Imitations

For example, reducing the alu-zinc mix in the steel by half can reduce the lifespan of the tile by up to two-thirds. In addition, fakes and copies will not perform to our high standards, may leak and cause damage to your home.

Fakes and copies will not perform to our high standards, they will fade, change color, and may leak, causing damage to your home. The roofs below are all fake stone-coated roof tiles.

Sangobuild® Roofing Tiles are coated with natural stone chips, volcanically formed, and taken from quarries in France. These coatings add natural beauty to the roof and a hard layer of protection from the weather.

Being of natural stone, the vibrant color is protected against the extreme UV of the African sun and will never change.

Chip Loss

Some products have bad chip coverage, to begin with. A quick spray with paint might cover this up, but the owner will pay the price eventually.

Some tiles lose their chip over time. This comes as a result of ultraviolet exposure causing weakness of the basecoat. How will you know if your roof will do this?

Sangobuild® uses a deep basecoat and the stone chips are buried deep and secure in the base coat, they don’t come out.

Corrosion

Corrosion is caused when moisture in the atmosphere meets metal and it starts to rust. When steel rusts, the color is reddish-brown and once this happens, the steel is useless.

Galvanizing is the process of coating the steel with zinc. The Zinc also rusts, but more slowly and during the time it takes the zinc to rust away, the steel is protected.

The color of Zinc rusting is white, this can be seen on some of the other roofs.

Sangobuild® Roofs are made with Alu‐Zinc coated steel and carry a manufactures 50-year warranty against perforation of the tile from weathering, such as corrosion.
